In my opinion the most underrated glam/hair bands are Britny Fox, Danger Danger and the Sleeze Beez. Vito Bratta is one of the really underrated guitar players, alongside Reb Beach. Totally different album, and utterly, completely epic and emotional awesome. Of course, it turned out to be a put-on Stanley was really a rich kid called Chris Stann, and the whole thing was somewhere between performance art, social commentary and plain bad taste. A bit more polished and focused than their debut, which I personally prefer over this one, but this is the album that blew the door open for the entire 80's hair metal genre. Ill have to dig it out and give it another chance. Shortly thereafter, Rough Cutt disbanded, and while they have managed to regroup here and there, you wouldnt expect to see them headlining any summer 2021 legacy act tours with Styx or Journey anytime soon. The 50 Other Essential Hair Metal Albums - Rate Your Music I suspect I am going to get flack for this, but despite what you might think, this all-female Hair Metal masterpiece is supremely underrated. Love it or hate it, but you cant deny that Superstitious slays and it might just be Europes greatest ever track. When I wrote Return to the Sunset Strip: 10 Underrated Glam & Hair Metal-Era Albums, I didnt really know what to expect. Metal albums that I like and that don't have much ratings: consists of the albums I currently rate 4.5* or 5* that have roughly 50 ratings or lower. It kinda sucks when your biggest hit is a cover song, although probably nobody knew that back in 1989. It's also worth noting that their early tracks as Young Gunns were equally awesome, and the B-sides from Under the Influence are pretty incredible (to the point of being significantly better than some of the album tracks, not that it would've made a difference in the end, sadly). Of course, I had no idea this album existed in 1990, which is a damn shame, as I would've been an enormous fan from day one. This, their best album contains the song "Metal Health" which is, according to Kevin DuBrow, the original FU song. Well, they did. If theyd been born 30 years earlier, Station would have been as big as Def Leppard, or at least Trixter. Vixen is everything that MCA Records hoped Femme Fatale could be, except that Vixen did succeed, and when Vixen was released in 1988, it earned gold certification by the RIAA. Also, weve added in a few that we feel could have, or maybe even should have, been on the first list as well. Previously, we alluded to the massive screw job that Britny Fox received in being bumped off KISS Hot In The Shade Tour, which subsequently led to an avalanche of garbage raining down onto them for the next few years. The record stalled at #141 on The Billboard 200 and quickly fell off the charts. It was formed by the same dude who invented the most popular and inherently-flawed-leaving-endless-bullshit-marketing-for-upgrades-rather-than-just-make-a-great-product-in-the-first-place piece of guitar technology, Mr. Floyd Rose, who, although he did an acceptable job of producing and engineering both Q5 albums overall, did an unacceptable job of engineering the guitar sounds for both albums, and did not have enough finesse as a lead player to make his solos sound pleasing (although he wasnt awkward like Steve Howe, he was no George Lynch). Their follow up has some of the best songwriting in Cock Rock, in my opinion. I tend to be a huge sucker for catchy songs, so some degree of commercialism probably flies past my radar, heh. The 1990s started out with DS-1 distortion pedal grunge bands viciously stomping on the global spandex-wearing hair-metal movement from the decade before and ceremoniously ended with the rise. Badlands Badlands (1989) The album was recorded at Eddie Van Halen's 5150 home studio, and Wildside was the first band other than Van Halen to record there. For many reasons, this is a pretty sad state of affairs, as this record is really, honestly nearly as good as The Final Countdown, if not, dare I say itbetter. That said, surely an album with songs co-written by Ronnie James Dio is worth at least a few spins, right? Speaking of late-stage Hair Metal, this record is about as late as it gets in that regard. Sure, the record did go gold, but the reviews were not kind, with Martin Popoff going as far as to call the record, An offensive Pop Rock outing, much closer to early Warrantthan The Final Countdown could or would dare. Popoff went on to muse, A dunce-cap posse solidly in search of cash and chicks, egregiously removed from any sort of Hard Rock acumen. Ouch.
